Piercing Piercing Experiences Facial & Oral Septum Piercing
About a week and a half ago, I got my septum pierced. I had been on bme looking at pictures and experiences trying to find a piercing that I would like. I had gotten my lowbret pierced about 2 months before and was beginning to get that feeling, that I needed another piercing. I found myself looking at alot of the pictures/experiences on septum piercings. I was quite intrigued by how pretty they looked, and by how people described how it felt. Plus if I got it pierced with a retainer, it would be easy to hide, which is good for work considering I already had 4 facial piercings (eyebrow, lip, lowbret and smiley). Also my dad didn’t want me to get anymore face piercings because he thinks I look like a freak. I figured that what he doesn't know won't hurt him, so I decided to go through with it.
My payday was Friday, so I had to wait until then, so I started calling around to different places to get information and such. I usually go to this other place (and if you live in Calgary you'll know which place I'm talking about), but I wasn't always happy with the results, so I started asking fellow piercees what a good place to go was. I was directed to Rob Hill, and he had pierced my friend's naval, so he wasn't a complete stranger. I called him up that Friday to make sure he wasn't to busy (which he wasn't) and made an appointment for 4 o'clock that day.
I arrived a little after 4, for I had a long walk from the train station. He had just finished with someone, and immediately after, came out to greet me. We sat out in the lobby area and talked for a good 20 minutes, just small talk, and after that finally said that I was probably ready to get started. I already felt very comfortable with him, and wasn't nervous, more excited. We got into his studio, and he had a deck of cards in there. Then he started doing amazing card tricks! I was quite impressed, and it just made me feel more at ease. He took out everything he needed, put the needle in the autoclave right in front of me, put on some gloves and asked if he could feel my septum. He notified me that I had a very straight septum, and explained how some people have crooked septums, so the jewelry doesn't sit straight and these people can "train" their septum’s to sit properly. Then I said something about it being somewhat like a new pet, hence the name of my experience. He did some more card tricks, and then finally the needle was done in the autoclave. Finally we were ready to pierce.
He asked me if I had ever had my septum pierced before, (which I hadn’t) and he explained that it provided a very different feeling that that which you get from other piercings. He cleaned out my nose, and we both laughed about how if someone were to walk in and not know that he was going to pierce, people would think we were a little insane. He held the retainer up to my nose to make sure it would fit right, and then proceeded to tell me what he would be doing. He put a receiving tube in my right nostril and lined up where he was going to pierce. I felt a tiny prick here, but it wasn't too bad. Then he said just to take some deep breaths, and on the second one I believe, I felt the needle go through, and he was right, it was a very different feeling from any other piercing I had ever got. It's hard to explain how it felt, it wasn't unpleasant in any way, but.... different. My eyes watered a whole lot but it was fine. Then he got the retainer and put that through and my eyes watered some more. (Damn that spot is sensitive!) I had finally got my septum pierced! He then proceeded to tell me how to take care of it; never to touch it with dirty hands, soak with a sea salt mixture, basically keep away from it until it's healed. His rule of thumb was; don't put anything in your piercing that you wouldn't put in your eye, ie. Dial soap, bactine etc. I have stuck by that rule, and so far, my septum has been healing amazingly well.
If anyone lives in Calgary and is looking for a good piercer, Rob Hill is amazing. He makes you feel comfortable, and he knows what he's doing. Of all my piercings, I'd have to say it's my favorite (out of 25). If you’re looking to get a septum piercing, go for it. Just make sure you get all the information beforehand, so you know what you're getting into.
