Piercing Piercing Experiences Body & Surface Surface Piercing
So, this is a story about my cleavage bar. It was something that I thought was really original as I was falling asleep one night - that's when I get my best ideas. The next day I went directly to my piercer, whom I've seen a million times, and brought up the idea. He had never done one before, but since I knew he had done some surface work and was completely confident in his abilities, we decided to go for it. He checked out the area to see how and where it should be placed, and then made some measurements. He had to order in some jewelry, and so we made the appointment for the next week.
I walked in close to closing time the day of our appointment and waited for Rob to be done with his client. We had decided that the best time to do it would be after close, because we knew that it would take a while and I didn't want to take up much of his time during the day. The other piercer there, Deanna, stayed to help out and watch, and since I'm pretty good friends with her I didn't mind her being around - besides the fact that I'm always really nervous before a piercing and she's really good at calming me down.
When the shop was closed and Rob was ready, the three of us headed into the piercing room and Rob showed me the jewelry (12ga, 1 inch stainless steel surface bar). It looked good to me, so I got myself somewhat undressed and Rob cleaned the spot where I was to be pierced. After several minutes of marking and remarking, and changing his gloves several times, he told me to move around my arms to see how much the marks would move for proper placement. Arms up, arms down, arms to the side - all the fun stuff. He remarked a couple of times, and then had me lay down on the dentist type chair. Again it was the same drill - arms up, arms down, arms to the side, and some more remarking. I think that the most uncomfortable part of it all was the pinching and massaging of the skin and tissue - that sucked.
When he was completely satisfied with the markings, he showed them to me and I agreed. Deanna said that they looked good and so the fun part began. Rob clamped the skin, not terribly comfortable, but not all that bad, and then told me to take some deep breaths. From having him pierce me so many times before, I knew the drill and exactly what he was doing, so there was no real explanation needed on his part. The great thing about Rob? He explained everything anyway. As usual, he told me that I'd feel a little poke as he lined up the needle, and then deep breaths and it would be done. As usual, that was exactly as it happened. The jewelry transfer went really smoothly, and once the ball was on it was finished. It was actually quite quick.
The actual piercing was really quite painless. No worse than an eyebrow. There was no bleeding, and very little redness afterwards.
I was told the aftercare once it was all cleaned - sea salt soaks, don't touch it, don't play with it, keep it clean. I got up and looked in the mirror and was instantly in love. It was perfectly straight, perfectly beautiful.
Unfortunately the beauty didn't last. The bottom of it started to reject and it was finally removed about 6 months after being done. It was so much fun while it was there, though. I got a lot of looks when I was wearing the right shirts, and so many people commented on how much they liked it. The best part was that I could feel the bar under my skin. It was so foreign, yet felt so right being there. Such a strange feeling. I left it in a little too long, and I now have a scar where the bottom hole was. It's unfortunate, but that's the price you've got to pay sometimes.
I have to say that all in all it was a great experience. Rob was really patient and didn't rush through the procedure at all. He was very precise in his marking and piercing, as he always is. There is no piercer that I would recommend over Rob any day, so if you're ever in the Calgary area and have the itch to get a piercing, go see him. It's a great shop with friendly staff and excellent, experienced piercers.
Oh, and if your piercings are rejecting, don't wait too long. Take them out before you're left with scars. It's not a pretty sight!
